How to Update Galaxy S GT I9000 with Orange Amestris v7.3 ROM Custom Firmware

The Orange Magic for Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 returns and this time it’s much more powerful and high on feature list. This all new firmware of Amestris ROM is dubbed as the version of JW1 and is a v7.3 version. This firmware is a March series firmware and solves all the bugs which were there in the earlier version. Please be informed that this is not an Official firmware version released by Samsung Electronics. We recommend you to follow all the instructions mentioned in this article so as to ensure that this firmware is updated successfully. Apart from the mentioned steps, we don’t recommend you to follow any other steps.
Over a period of this article we will also be checking out on what are the list of pre requisites you need to follow along with a detailed article on what is the detailed procedure on how to apply this update with a detailed tutorial in the next page. For your convenience we have also posted the images on how this firmware will look like in your Samsung Galaxy S.

Note: For applying this firmware, you will need to root your device and once the deivce is rooted, the warranty will get void. The only way with which you can get back the lost warranty is by re applying the firmware update of XWJW1 or XXJVU Firmware.
Pre Requisites:

• Before proceeding, you need to Download the Amestris v7.3 Firmware Package from here to your computer.
• All the data present in your phone should be backed up as in the process of applying this update, the data might get either lost or corrupted. With the help of below mentioned steps you can easily backup the same. After updating with this release, the KIES won’t recognize the device as it’s a custom ROM firmware.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”

• Minimum charge left in the device should be at least 60% so as to ensure that device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
• Disable all the antivirus suites in your computer and uninstall the same in your device as these tools generally tend to interrupt the process of firmware update.
• Irrespective of the current firmware you are ON, you need to ensure that you have rooted the same as this firmware can only be applied on the rooted firmwares.

Special Instructions to Users on Custom ROM Firmware:
It’s very important for you to be on the XWJW1 Firmware, it’s not recommended to update from your current custom ROM firmware to this Amestris Custom ROM Firmware. Ensure that you disable the Lag fixes if any installed from the recovery mode. You also need to ensure that the Dalvik Cache in your phone too is wiped off so as to ensure that just in case if any data cache is there that too is wiped off completely.
The Galaxy S I9000 can be entered into recovery mode by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to turn ON your device.


Procedure to Update Galaxy S with Amestris ROM v7.3 Custom ROM Firmware:

• Before proceeding, you need to ensure that you are on the Rooted Firmware of XWJW1. Just in case if you are not on the rooted firmware then you need to update and root the same. Just in case if you haven’t rooted then you need to root XWJW1 Firmware.

• Now, assuming that you have downloaded the Amestris v7.3 Custom ROM Firmware Zip file from the list of pre requisites mentioned in the previous page, you need to connect your phone to computer with the help of original USB cable.

• Place the downloaded Zip file in your device’s SD Card. Ensure that you are not placing the file deep into the Sub folders. Once you place the file, disconnect the phone connected from computer and turn Off the device so that it can then be entered in the recovery mode.
• The Galaxy S I9000 can be entered into recovery mode by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to turn ON your device. Once you enter into the recovery mode, you need to select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” so that this will clear the cache which is there in your device.

• Select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” > “Amestris ROM v7.3 Custom ROM Firmware Zip Package”. It may take up to 10 minutes to process the update file.
• As soon as the update is applied successfully, the phone will again land up in the recovery mode where you need to select “++++ Go Back ++++” and then select “reboot system now” to reboot the phone.

For Users Facing Force Close Errors:

• Turn off your device so that it can then be entered in the recovery mode.
• In recovery mode select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” so that this will clear the cache after which select “++++ Go Back ++++” and select “reboot system now” which will restart the Galaxy S.

1. Install “rescue-backdoor” – anti-bootloop protection, gives opportunity to reflash current firmware if something goes wrong with modifying system things.
2. Toggle OTA system updates and notifications – You can also disable the annoying update notifications which can be enabled back,
3. Install init.d support – Just push the bash scripts to ‘/system/etc/init.d/’ to get them auto start on device booting.
4. Install GPS Fix Mod – This one changes gps.conf with modded version to get better and faster signal.
5. Fake as other devices – fake your tab as one of four available (Acer A500, Motorola XOOM, Galaxy SII, Galaxy TAB) – to get more games/apps available in market To bring back original – run again.
6. [init.d] script] Increase SD/extSD read speeds. – adds init.d script which automatically on boot changes cache value, to get better read speeds
